Grow beautiful vegetables outside and turn them into delicious eats in the kitchen with Fiskars as your sous chef.
Few tasks are as rewarding as growing your own vegetable garden. When it comes time to harvest those garden-fresh vegetables and turn them into a delicious dish in the kitchen, your hard work pays off.
Just like gardening doesn't have to be difficult, making delicious vegetable dishes at home doesn't have to be either. Here are two dishes (and two ways) to make an impression with your vegetables, one with the vegetables as the star, and the other with them in a supporting role.
Simple Sauteed Green Beans and Thyme
A simple dish like this showcases delicious homegrown vegetables, while keeping your time in the kitchen to a minimum. To speed up the process, use your Fast-prep Kitchen Shears to cut the tips off of the green beans and utilize the herb-stripper on the All-purpose Kitchen Shears to snip the thyme leaves off the stem. Using shears to cut your ingredients directly into the pan means fewer steps and fewer tools used, which equals less clean up later.
1 ounce unsalted butter
1 ounce olive oil
1 pound fresh green beans, tips cut off.
1 tablespoon fresh thyme
1 tablespoon lemon zest
Salt and pepper to taste
1. Heat the butter and oil in a sauté pan over medium heat.
2. Add the green beans, thyme, and lemon zest. Cook, tossing frequently until the green beans begin to change color and become a little softer, but are still crisp.
3. Add the salt and pepper. Toss and serve.
Garden Herb Coated Chicken Breast
A dish like this shows how a myriad of garden fresh veggies and herbs can come together to create a delicious meal. Use your Fast-prep Herb Shears to harvest herbs straight from your garden.
1 onion, sliced
3 celery stalks, thinly sliced
5 cloves garlic, smashed
10 sprigs rosemary
20 sprigs thyme
5 sprigs oregano
3 chicken breasts, bone in
Olive oil, to taste
Salt and pepper, to taste
1. Preheat an oven to 375°F.
2. Arrange the onion, celery, garlic, and half of the rosemary, thyme, and oregano on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
3. Coat the chicken breasts in olive oil and place on top of the herbs and vegetables, breast-side up.
4. Chop the remaining herbs and spread over the chicken breasts. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Roast for 45 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
6. Remove and let sit a few minutes before serving.
