These oversized meditation cushions will provide a place of calm and comfort during your reflective moments. I took inspiration from traditional cushions, but created a version I felt matched my personal style a bit more. Whether you want to go more modern like me or keep it classic, you can create a simple cushion that works both indoors and out in the yard so you'll be ready to relax whenever and wherever the mood strikes.

Step 1: Cut the fabric. To make your own meditation cushion, first cut your fabric to size using the Fiskars® 60mm Stick Rotary and Fiskars® Acrylic Ruler. I cut two pieces of fabric each measuring 28" x 28" as I wanted a large final product I could sit cross-legged on, but you can adjust larger or smaller depending on your need. Additionally, I used an indoor-outdoor fabric so I could take these cushion into the yard for some outdoor relaxation time in my meditation garden

Step 2: Sew the fabric. Place the two fabric squares together with the right sides facing each other. Pin around the perimeter of the two layers of fabric, then sew with a 1/2" seam allowance. Leave one side open for inserting the pillow.

Step 3: Clip the corners. Next, use the Fiskars® Original Orange-handled Scissors™ to clip the corners, making sure you don't snip into the stitches. Then, turn the cushion cover inside out to show the right sides of fabric facing out and insert the pillow.

Step 4: Sew the opening closed. Pin the open side closed and hand stitch using small stitches to secure pillow inside.

Step 5: Finish the cushion. Now, finish your cushion by sewing a button into the center of each side. Use a doll needle to sew into the center of one side of the cushion and out through the other, adding a button to each side. Pull the thread tight so that the buttons are pulled snugly into the cushion.

Step 6: Relax! Place your cushion in your desired relaxation area, either indoor or outdoor. If you do take the cushion outside, make sure to bring it back in when you're done to prolong the life of your cushion.

Patterns

If you're looking to create a more traditional pattern, you can find many different tutorials online to follow. The steps will be essentially the same, but you won't be embellishing with the button in the center, and your end product will be round instead of the square shape I created above.
